Bessemer City High School scholars dedicate weekend to 'moving the needle'

BESSEMER, Ala. — Students and staff at Bessemer City High School spent their weekend hitting the books as part of a targeted academic push to improve student outcomes. The high school hosted a "Saturday School" session Jan. 17, drawing a dedicated group from the junior class. The extra hours were focused on three primary academic pillars: ACT preparation, specialized tutoring, and course completion.

School officials praised the initiative of the students, noting that their willingness to attend sessions outside of traditional school hours is a key part of "moving the needle" for the institution’s academic standing. "We are truly thankful for our dedicated junior class and their willingness to show up and put in the work," administrators said in a statement.

The session was supported by staff members who volunteered their Saturday to facilitate the lessons. The school community emphasized that this collective effort reflects a long-term commitment to the district's success. The weekend academy is part of an ongoing effort to ensure scholars are prepared for post-secondary opportunities and standardized testing requirements.
